Every year a group called NCWIT does a special award for “aspirations in computing.” That is, girls who are really striving to get into the computing world, against any odds they may face, have a chance to enter and win this award, go to a cool ceremony, and have a chance to win the national award.
To be blunt, these girls can get the recognition they deserve for being generally awesome.
And the girls who win it are always pretty awesome. Read about two of the winners from last year, and the award ceremony at. You can also read the profiles from last year’s awards program. These are really driven girls who want to succeed and like to generally conquer any challenge set in front of them. Before breakfast.
Entering to win the NCWIT award is not hard. Check the links at the end of this post for info.
And once you do enter to win, don’t stop being awesome. Some people feel like once they get an award, they’re recognized and can stop. Well, you can if you want, but don’t be awesome for the recognition. Do it because it’s awesome. And keep being awesome afterwards, like this girl.
Seriously though, sign up for the award for the recognition. That’s what it’s for.
